You have to pay a fee of $12 per month and have a qualifying direct deposit of your salary, pension, Social Security, or other regular monthly income, electronically deposited to your Opportunity Checking account by your employer or an outside agency. The minimum opening deposit is $50 and the Opportunity Checking account cannot be opened online. You have to apply in person at a Wells Fargo branch. Some applicants claim that they were able to open an account online but then had their checking accounts frozen and closed a few days later after Wells Fargo did a closer investigation into their bank history. No second chance bank offers guaranteed approval. Banks offering second chance checking might decline your application if more than one bank reported you to Chexsystems. If you only owe money to one bank but it’s over $200, you might not qualify for second chance checking. If you are denied a second chance checking account, see the list of banks that do not use Chexsystems in your state.
